An interesting note on community size comes from a study I read decades ago that looked at Mennonite, Hutterite, and Amish communities. It found that usually once the community reached 300+ people they ended up having some sort of schism which caused them to break apart. I remember thinking at the time that it was interesting how such a process would operate and control such behavior without the individuals being conscious of it at all. Each individual would have had their own reasons why the separation was necessary but would nevertheless have been directed by the internal limits of human connection.

Good advice, Margi. Listening and setting aside our differences to build communities with the right skill sets is going to be critical going forward. Survivors of climate change will need to be as self-reliant as possible.
